You know the melody. A line in the chorus gives you pause.
What does it mean? Does the Bible say that? Doxapraxis gives you a place to look through a song’s lyrics, read the Scripture behind a review, and think it through before Sunday.
A song doesn’t have to say everything to say something true. These questions can help when a particular line needs a closer look.
What is God promising?
God’s faithfulness doesn’t mean life will be easy. If a lyric seems to promise that everything will work out the way we want, read the passage it points to. Who is being addressed? What are they actually being promised?
There’s a difference between obeying God because he has rescued us and obeying him to earn that rescue. A song about commitment may simply focus on our response. Read enough of it to tell whether that distinction is clear.
Someone singing through loss may describe how God’s absence feels. That isn’t necessarily a claim that God has abandoned them. Give the song room to express grief, and notice where it goes from there.
The guide takes a few made-up lyric examples and reads them alongside Scripture. There’s also a worksheet to help you write down what you agree on, what needs more discussion, and whether to use the song.
Choosing music for a church involves more than finding a good tune. The words matter, and it helps to have somewhere to look them up and talk about them.
That’s what this library is for. Search for a song or artist, read the review and its references, and join the discussion if you see something differently. You can also look for songs by theme or doctrine.
AI generates the biblical and theological assessments. Administrators choose which songs to include, but that doesn’t mean a theologian has checked every review. The AI can get things wrong. Please read the passages and weigh its conclusions.
Read beyond the number
The rating is a summary of the review’s findings, not a percentage of biblical accuracy or a judgment of the artist’s faith. Your church’s beliefs and your pastor’s guidance still matter when choosing what to sing.
If something looks wrong, leave a comment on the song’s page with the line and Bible passage you have in mind. You can also write to support@doxapraxis.app.
